This captured my eye this morning. I remember how glorious it was at the peak of the summer and how much the hummingbirds enjoyed grabbing a little snack on their way to the feeders. To everything there is a season, and I have learned to try my best to embrace the one that is before me with thankfulness. Today, I was drawn to the shadows of faded beauty.
I experimented with different techniques in applying the shadow areas. I used the wet-on-wet technique to create a shadow with a more diffused, soft edge (right). I would have preferred a second wash to darken it a bit, but time was limited today. Then I painted wet on dry to achieve a darker, bolder shadow (left). I think I like that look better.
